# Data Verification
> Built-in data verification ensures your economic charts use authentic, unaltered data from official sources across 16+ providers
# Data Verification
MACROVISONOMICS includes built-in data verification to help you trust the economic data you're analyzing and sharing. Every chart traces its data back to original source APIs, and published charts carry verification badges so viewers can confirm authenticity.
## What is Data Verification?
When you create or publish a chart, MACROVISONOMICS records a verification snapshot of the data — capturing the source API, indicator codes, and values at the time of retrieval. This creates an auditable record that the data originated from official sources and can be compared against the source if the underlying data is later revised.
Data is traced to official APIs from 16+ international institutions, with source indicator codes recorded at publish time.
If source institutions later revise their data, the chart's verification status updates to "Modified" so viewers know the underlying data has changed.

## How Verification Works
### Automatic Verification on Publish
When you publish a chart to the Community Gallery, MACROVISONOMICS performs these steps:
The system records the data values, indicator codes, source URLs, and retrieval timestamp used in the chart at the time of publishing.
Each data series is traced to its original source API (e.g., World Bank indicator `NY.GDP.MKTP.CD` for GDP). The platform records which source endpoint provided the data.
A verification badge is attached to the published chart, visible to all viewers. The badge shows the verification status and can be clicked for details.
If the source institution revises their data (e.g., a statistical update by the World Bank), the verification status updates to "Modified" to alert viewers that the underlying data has changed since the chart was published.
### Verification Status
Charts can have one of three verification statuses:
| Status | Badge | Meaning |
| -------------- | --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Verified** | Green checkmark | Data integrity confirmed — matches original source data at the time of verification |
| **Modified** | Amber warning | Source data has been revised since the chart was published (e.g., a statistical revision by the data provider) |
| **Unverified** | Grey circle | Chart has not yet been verified, or verification could not be completed |
A "Modified" status does not mean the chart is inaccurate — it means the source institution has updated their data since the chart was created. This is common with preliminary economic estimates that are later revised.
## Viewing Verification Details
Click the verification badge on any chart to see:
* **Verification Status** — current authenticity status with color-coded badge
* **Source Information** — which data sources and specific indicator codes were used
* **Verification Date** — when the data was last verified against the original source
* **Data Snapshot** — the data values recorded at the time of verification
* **Source URLs** — direct links to the original data at the source institution
Published charts in the Community Gallery always show their verification status, giving viewers confidence in the data they're seeing. Look for the shield icon next to the chart title.
## Source Methodology
MACROVISONOMICS does not alter or adjust data from source institutions. The platform retrieves data exactly as published by each provider:

| **World Bank** | Data compiled from national statistical offices and international organizations. Subject to periodic revisions. |
| **FRED** | Data published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Includes vintages and revision history. |
| **IMF** | Data from IMF surveillance and member country submissions. Updated with each World Economic Outlook. |
| **OECD** | Harmonized statistics from 38 member nations using standardized definitions. |
| **Eurostat** | Official statistics of the European Union, subject to EU quality frameworks. |
| **ILO** | Labor statistics using internationally agreed definitions (ICLS standards). |
| **WHO** | Health data validated through WHO's Global Health Observatory quality assurance processes. |
| **BIS** | Banking and financial statistics collected directly from central banks. |
### Data Freshness
Different sources update at different frequencies:

## Trust Indicators
Beyond verification badges, MACROVISONOMICS provides additional trust signals:
### Source Attribution
Every chart displays the data source(s) used in the footer. When multiple sources contribute to a single visualization, all are listed with their respective indicator codes.
### Data Credibility Panel
The data credibility panel (available on chart views) shows:
* **Source reputation** — international institution or national statistics office
* **Methodology transparency** — whether the source publishes detailed methodology
* **Update regularity** — how consistently the source provides updates
* **Coverage breadth** — number of countries and time periods covered
### Cross-Source Validation
When the same indicator is available from multiple sources (e.g., GDP from both World Bank and IMF), MACROVISONOMICS can display both series for comparison, helping you identify discrepancies caused by different methodologies or revision schedules.
## Why This Matters
Economic data drives important decisions. Verification helps ensure:

Data verification is available on all plans. Published charts in the Community Gallery automatically receive verification badges.
