# Smart Search

MACROVISONOMICS uses intelligent search technology to understand your questions and find relevant economic data instantly.

## How Smart Search Works

Simply type what you're looking for in everyday language. The system understands your intent and finds matching indicators, countries, and suggests appropriate visualizations.

### What You Type → What You Get

| Your Query | System Understands |
| ----------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| "GDP growth in G7 countries" | Indicator: GDP growth rate, Countries: G7 bloc |
| "Compare inflation between US and Europe" | Indicator: CPI inflation, Regions: USA vs EU |
| "Show me unemployment trends since 2010" | Indicator: Unemployment rate, Time: 2010-present |

## Smart Search vs Agent Chat

Smart Search and Agent Chat are separate experiences:

* **Smart Search** finds economic indicators and creates visualizations from your natural language queries. It's optimized for data discovery and chart creation.
* **Agent Chat** (available in the Analysis tab) lets you have back-and-forth conversations with specialized AI agents about your data. Agent chat now supports **conversational context** — it remembers up to 20 turns of dialogue, so you can ask follow-up questions and refine your analysis naturally.

Use Smart Search to find and visualize data. Use Agent Chat to explore, analyze, and ask deeper questions about what you've found.

## Agent Processing Steps

When you perform an AI-powered search (Neural or Research mode), you'll see the **Agent Processing Steps** — a visual indicator showing real-time progress through 5 stages:

1. **Understanding your query**: Parses your natural language input
2. **Searching for indicators**: Finds matching economic metrics across 16+ sources
3. **Fetching data**: Retrieves information from the relevant sources
4. **Preparing visualization**: Formats data for charting
5. **Analyzing results**: Generates AI-powered insights

As each step completes, you'll also see detected entities — including recognized countries, matched indicators, and suggested chart types — displayed in real time. This gives you full visibility into what the AI is doing behind the scenes.
